රොෂාන් මහානාම ඉල්ලා අස්වූයේ ඇයි? ක්‍රීඩා ඇමති නිහඬයි?

Roshan Mahanama Resigns from National Sports Council Amid Frustration Over Minister’s Silence

Former Test cricketer and international match referee Roshan Mahanama has resigned from the National Sports Council (NSC), just months after being appointed by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage. His decision and the government’s silence in response have sparked widespread discussion within Sri Lanka’s sporting community.

Although Mahanama officially cited personal reasons in his resignation letter, sources close to him told LankaSportsNews that the real motivation was his frustration with the Sports Minister’s failure to acknowledge or act on the proposals and advice he had put forward.

Adding to the controversy, NSC Chairman Priyantha Ekanayake has also remained silent, avoiding any public comment on the issue—an omission that has raised further questions.

Mahanama, widely respected as one of cricket’s true gentlemen, is said to have presented a number of practical and effective recommendations for the betterment of Sri Lankan cricket. However, critics accuse the minister of acting as a “puppet of corrupt cricket administrators, including Shammi Silva,” who are currently facing a Supreme Court case and are expected to be summoned before the COPE Committee.

Speaking to LankaSportsNews, a former Test player close to Mahanama expressed confidence that the legal and parliamentary processes would hold the officials accountable.

In a related development, Lacile  de Silva, a former Director of Administration in Parliament, recently lodged a complaint with the Bribery Commission and the CID, calling for investigations into the alleged unlawful enrichment of five senior cricket officials.
